Our Brief
Built on the footprint of the original building, which was tragically destroyed by fire in February 2006, this stand alone building forms the first phase of a future three storey open aspect teaching block to replace the existing Music, Drama, Mathemathics, Geography, Language, Library and Dining facilities.
Proposals
Like a modern office the light, airy and vibrant internal environment has an aesthetically professional feel and the aim was to provide the students with a sense of ownership. The building provides generous circulation space and is flexible / adaptable for future use, providing multi-purpose use spaces for both the school and local community.
The building is striking in its appearance as a result of the innovative use of Pilkington Optifloat Arctic Blue windows, White Sto Render system and Rockpanel ‘Chameleon’ Panels (Pearlescent Blue, Green and Purple effect)
The environment is naturally ventilated utilising Monodraught Windcatchers, Suncatchers and a Windowmaster System and heated by underfloor heating; all systems are automatically controlled via sensors and a BMS System measuring temperature + CO² levels.
The teaching environment is state of the art with full WIFI & hard wired data facilities and a full professional Recording Studio that links between the two adjacent Music Rooms and a Drama Studio. The Drama Studio specification includes a large acoustic sliding & folding partition. This will afford the flexibility for use in conjunction with the dining room, numerous perimeter curtains, rear projection background screens, lighting rigs and sound systems with flexible controls, ICT provision, and an acoustically treated independent ventilation system.
