Solihull Energy Centre
Located within Tudor Grange Park, the proposed Energy Centre will provide a range of renewable and low carbon energy solutions including Air Source Heat Pumps and Gas Combined Heat and Power to provide heat and power to public and private sector customers, including council owned buildings, education campuses and commercial offices, freeing building operators from their reliance on natural gas and other fossil fuels while helping Solihull in its drive towards Net Zero Carbon emissions by 2041.
The building is designed to respond to the natural landscape of the adjacent parkland. Careful material choices help the building sit well within the environment. The natural colour tones of the proposed materials demonstrate texture and warmth.
Vertical elements of the design imitate trees within the park, and the gaps between them allow glimpses into parts of the Energy Centre, resembling the natural views seen when walking through the landscape. The proposed cladding is perforated to break up the architectural form and reflect natural tree foliage canopies within the landscape which also creates dappled shadows at various times of the day within the building.
Transport Hub Development
We were tasked with providing visualisations to help support a client provide a speculative phased commercial development. The images portray a mixed-use commercial development at the heart of a transport hub. The development consists of a variety of multi storey offices, convenience retail / food & beverage, multi storey accommodation, all with dedicated parking facilities and interconnected public spaces. The proposals explore angular sculpted building forms with contemporary fenestration patterns to provide emphasis, create identity and is massed to provide prominence where required.
The brief involves creating a high-level Masterplan image to support the Urban Growth Company’s vision for ‘The Hub’; “creating Europe’s best-connected destination for business, leisure and living; a new and outstanding gateway to the UK” . The vision integrates key stakeholder aspirations within the area to create a unified framework for growth and redevelopment. BDS translated the integrated vision into a Masterplan bringing together many aspects of a movement network, differing land use areas, building forms and public open spaces. The illustration provides a sense of scale of the development, imagined opportunity for economic development and provocative architectural vision to promote the realisation of The Hub.
